Zora Neale Hurston Middle School is a middle school (Grade 6-8) attended by four (originally three) members of the team. The school is named after Zora Neale Hurston, who was an author and anthropologist. This is also where Jamal and Lenni first saw Ghostwriter together in the story arc "Ghost Story". The school is a frequent scene of crimes and subsequent evidence that are investigated by the team.

- Ms. Nussbaum, Ms. Roca, Ms. Santiago, Ms. Steele and Mr. Sweeney were never seen or mentioned. Their names were only shown one time on a copy of Lenni's report card in "Who is Max Mouse?".
- Mr. Crew is Jamal and Rob's teacher for their last period for seventh grade in the book Alias Diamond Jones. It is possible that he is a Science teacher, since in "Into the Comics", they are both talking about their Science class after school has ended.
- The building used for exterior shots is the Cobble Hill School of American Studies in Brooklyn.
