Summary[]

In the western town of Silver Spur, a fourteen-year-old boy that calls himself the Camarillo Kid comes into a hotel, asking to see the sheriff. The hotel clerk states that there is none, since the town does not have any crime. The teen says that a man named Hitch has kidnapped his parents, and is holding them for ransom in Desperation Gulch. Scarlett, the boss of the hotel, says that the place is dangerous, but gives the boy directions.

Later, the man named Hitch comes into the hotel. He is captured, but released when his marshal badge is discovered. Hitch says that the name of the Camarillo Kid is Leonard, and that he had known him since he was younger. Leonard is a thief, and had stolen his vehicle, which he had named Patches, as well as some other items. It is discovered that the boy had also stolen a valuable treasure from the hotel- a large piece of silver.

Scarlett helps Hitch win a contest against a former criminal named Mr. Randal, and he wins the man’s horse, named Casey, and his gear. Hitch leaves the hotel in search of Leonard.

He goes into the gold mine, where he finds an unconscious elderly man named Gilroy, who lives there. He gives him some water, and Gilroy reveals that he had been attacked by Leonard. Gilroy is quite concerned when he discovers that Leonard had stolen a large gold nugget he had discovered. The man gives Hitch an ax to use, and Hitch goes further into the mine.

After a while, he has some trouble with quicksand, but Hitch helps Casey to get out of it. He tells the horse to go back to Gilroy. Hitch manages to get himself over the quicksand.

He finds his vehicle, and meets up with Dale Sweet, his deputy, who he is working with to find Leonard. Dale had been looking from the air for him from a spacecraft. Hitch guesses that Leonard had used another spacecraft to leave the area. Dale tells him that they are needed at the station, and Hitch reluctantly board Dale’s spacecraft to go to their home base in space.

Once there, Mayor Jonas Wilder is quite angry that Hitch had not brought his son, Leonard, with them. Hitch tells the mayor that Leonard had become a thief since he is spoiled. The mayor is even more angered, and orders that both of Hitches and Dale’s badges be taken away, and for them to stay on desk duty.

Dale is mad at Hitch, until he reveals that they are still going to go after Leonard. He tells her that the teen had stolen the valuable Tell Diamond from a science museum. He also tells her about the small history some different species of clans that came to live on Tensor-4 for peace, besides one clan- the Rivindale. The latter had wanted to control the planet, and if they are given the valuable items that Leonard had stolen, they could build powerful weapon.

Hitch explains to Dale that she should stay behind, but the deputy is adamant that she come. He explains that he is used to doing things alone, since his mother had died when he was young, and his father did not want to raise a son. Dale tells him that he should allow others to help him at times.

They go near a castle, with Hitch firm on going in by himself this time. Dale gets in trouble with a Rivin army, while Hitch is luckier and finds an unactivated mechanical army. They do not attack, and so he continues to the throne, where he finds the Rivin queen, Lady Tell. However, he gets caught within a large spiderweb, while other Rivins attach explosives to the space craft Hitch and Dale had traveled on.

Leonard appears in the castle, and announces that he is allies with the Rivins, including the Rivin Queen. The latter tells of their plan of rebellion, and Hitch is confused how the Rivins had been able to form an mechanical army while under watch. Mayor Wilder reveals that he had also become allies with the Rivins.

Dale realizes that the Rivins would be able to escape and cause trouble with a flying ship, and so she deactivates it before flying off the craft on her vehicle. Meanwhile, in the castle, Mayor Wilder explains that he had become allies with enemy Rivins and given them parts to build their mechanical army due to wanting to claim part of Tensor-4 for himself and Leonard. The thieving teen had also been the one to come up with the plan.

Lady Tell then show her true intentions as allies with the father and son as she has a knight corner them. Hitch is still stuck in the spider web, in trouble with a mechanical spider, when Dale comes in and helps him escape from both the web and the spider. With the web and a laser lasso, she tangles up the most of the mechanical army, who had come, ready to attack.

Hitch battles the mechanical knight that had cornered Mayor Wilder and Leonard. He calls out to Dale to break the glass that is holding the valuable items that Leonard had stolen, which is powering the mechanical army. She breaks it, after which more Rivins come. Lady Tell states that they still have the materials to start another power source with the items. However, Hitch reveals that since Dale deactivated the ship, a signal had gone out to the base, which meant that they have enough backup to stop the rebellion.

Base at the base, Hitch is met with honor. Mayor Wilder is no longer the mayor, and Leonard tells him that in the future, he wants to become a marshal. Hitch promotes Dale from deputy to full Sky Marshal, and they give the gold nugget back to Gilroy, who also keeps the horse, Casey. They also give back the town of Silver Spur the piece of silver.

In the epilogue, it is revealed that the events were merely a video game, played by Jamal and Gaby in Jamal’s bedroom. Though Jamal is glad that they had returned both the gold and silver and other things they had completed, Gaby is not satisfied, since they could have done more. They agree to play the game again, with Jamal playing Dale this time, and Gaby playing Hitch.
