Intro
In an alleyway we see a thief. He is running away while holding a big box. He runs to the gate, but cannot climb over it, while holding it. So he quickly dumps the box into the dumpster. Then he climbs over the fence and runs away.

Now two law enforcement officers (in suits and sunglasses) come running along. The heavy one begins sneezing, and stops to blow his nose. The thinner one tells him to hurry up and he squeezes through the fence. The heavy man can't squeeze through the fence. So he decides to run to the other side of the building. So he runs over sneezing as he goes.

After they've left, we are shown the inside of the dumpster. The box that thief threw into it, has opened. Now a beautiful black bird has come out!

Story
The arc begins inside the Fernandez family bodega.

Here we see a young pretty girl working at the cash register. Who is this girl? Also, she appears to be talking to Tina Nguyen on the telephone. Apparently, Tina has told this girl that she cannot help her take part recycling. So this girl tells Tina that she understands. So now she will just find someone else to help her. After hanging up, she crosses Tina's name off her list. Also it would appear, that she has already asked Lenni Frazier for help, who apparently said no as well.

Now we see Alex Fernandez walking by. So this girl tries to ask him nicely. Then he tells her no as well. Also the big surprise, is that according to him, this new young pretty girl is his younger sister Gabriela "Gaby" Fernandez! (Although she looks and sounds very different), So from this moment on, she is Gaby!

Then Gaby begs him to help her recycle cans for her school's recycling drive with her. She even attempts to bribe him, by offering to clean up his bedroom (his very own one that has just been built) for a month. It is a tempting offer, but he turns it down. All because he has to finish his book report, which is due the upcoming Monday. It is on "The Maltese Falson" by Dashiell Hammett. He says he has it written down. So now he is going over to Jamal Jenkins' house to use Jamal's computer. So that he can print out a good copy. So he says goodbye and leaves.

Now she is desperate. So she asks their Papa, Eduardo for his help. He tells his daughter that he would love to. But at the time being, their mother is Estella is away in El Salvador (for undisclosed reasons). So since she is away, he is now more busy having to do twice the workload! Eduardo apologizes and she understands.

Now Gaby can see Ghostwriter is searching for words, in her word search puzzle. So she figures that if he can do a word search, then perhaps he can help her find some cans. So Gaby writes to Ghostwriter: "Will you help me find cans to recycle for my school?". Ghostwriter instantly responds by telling her: "Let's go!". She is thrilled and she leaves telling her Papa what she is doing and where she is going. Eduardo gives her permission to go, and reminds her just to be careful.

Gaby follows Ghostwriter's trail. He leads her all the way into the big garbage dumpster in an alleyway. At first Gaby is turned off by the idea of searching in it. Since she feels that dumpsters are nasty. Then she decides to give it a chance, and to do it for the sake of her school's recycling drive. So she approaches the dumpster and she is startled and backs away after seeing rats.

Then just as she starts to leave, she can hear faint cawing and chirping sounds. Now she is intrigued to go and look again. Now she finds a pretty big black bird with long crest feathers. She is immediately taken by and falls in love with this bird. She is confused after seeing that it came out of a box that reads: "Brooklyn Chicken We make 'em, you bake 'em". She thinks it is a very odd looking chicken, (based on it's black beak and feathers). Then she comes to the conclusion that it isn't a chicken at all! So Gaby puts out her arm and it obediently climbs onto her hand. Then she gently raises the bird up. She nicely talks to it, expressing her concerns over why anyone could ever leave such a nice bird into a garbage dumpster. Now she decides that she wants to keep the bird.

Meanwhile, Ghostwriter senses that she is off task. So he asks her if she is still looking for cans. Gaby takes out her memo pad and replies to Ghostwriter. She tells him: "I found a bird, and I'm going to keep it!". Ghostwriter skims her message and flies off. Then Gaby picks up the box that this bird came in and puts it back in. Now she nicely tells it that she will take care of it from now on. Now she heads back home, but she has forgotten her bag of cans and her memo pad! Ghostwriter tries to point them out to her by flashing them in yellow light, but to no avail.

Now back at the Jenkins' house, we see Jamal and Alex climbing down the stairs. Alex thanks Jamal for letting him use his computer, and Jamal welcomes him. Now the front door opens and Grandma CeCe happily enters and announces her arrival. Jamal and Alex welcome her home. Also Grandma CeCe has brought a surprise with her: Casey Austin! Jamal isn't too excited too see her. Then Casey tries to tell them a joke, but Jamal doesn't care. Instead he just wants to know what she is doing here. Casey tells them it anyways and they laugh. Before Casey goes overboard, Alex says goodbye to Jamal and leaves. Once again, Jamal asks his Grandma why Casey is here. So Grandma CeCe explains that Casey has come home with her, for a little visit. So Jamal helps carry up Casey's suitcases.

After Grandma CeCe and Jamal go upstairs, Casey laments about being away from her mother. So she goes over to a picture of her on a table. Then she carries the picture over to the sofa and sits down. Next she takes out a letter that her mother gave to her. When she puts it down, Ghostwriter suddenly appears and starts borrowing letters. Then in the air, Ghostwriter tells her: "Hi, Casey. Welcome back!". This cheers Casey up only a bit. Then she sits down and looks at her mother's picture and letter again.

Now over at the bodega, we see Gaby begging her Papa to let her keep the bird. Eduardo says no because he doesn't want a pet; especially a bird. Since he is concerned that it will be flying all over the store. Gaby promises to keep it in her room. But Eduardo still says no. Since he believes he will be the one cleaning up after it. Then Gaby promises to do the work. But Eduardo still doesn't change his mind. He tells her that birds eat a lot, so he cannot afford to feed it. Then Gaby begs her Papa to let her keep the bird, at least until her Mama comes back home. Then she can prove to him, that she can take care of the bird. Eduardo isn't so sure. Then Gaby promises to give him her word in writing, that the bird won't be any trouble.

Now back at the dumpster in the alleyway, we see the thief from earlier is back. He is frantically searching for the bird, but cannot find it. Now what's this? The thief takes off his hat.. and his beard and mustache? Turns out this thief is a woman! As a matter of fact, she is an insanely dangerous and sinister master of disguise named Honey Hawke. She paces back and forth looking for clues. Then she finds Gaby's memo pad. She angrily reads out loud: "I found a bird, and I'm going to keep it!". Speaking out loud in soliloquy, she angrily tells the person that they are NOT going to keep the bird. Now Honey takes out her cell phone and phones her boss Audubon Poulet. She tells him it is her, and that she has some bad news, and some good news.

Now we see Alex has returned to the bodega, just as Gaby is writing out her words in a contract. He asks her what is going on. She reveals to him that she found a bird that someone threw away in a dumpster. Alex is amazed to see it and believes it to be a Maltese falcon. Then Alex places the bird on his shoulder, and it obediently sits there as he walks around. Gaby pleads to their Papa promising to do anything to keep it. Alex thinking it's cool, tries to convince their Papa also. But Eduardo says he has made up his mind not to keep it. Since he believes that birds are nothing but trouble.

Now Gaby reads out her contract she has made. She says that she promises to:

  1. Give the bird food and water everyday.
  2. Clean up after the bird.
  3. Keep the bird in her room.

She ends her contract by saying: "Cross my heart, Gaby". Hearing this, Eduardo reluctantly agrees and gives her a chance to keep the bird. But if she doesn't follow the promises she made on her contract, then the bird will have to go.

Next we see Gaby is trying to figure out what to feed her bird. First she offers it bird seed, but it won't eat it. She nicely tells it that is has to eat. Alex asks her what it's name is and whether it is a boy or a girl. She says she hasn't come up with a name yet, and cannot tell what it's gender is. But right now, her problem is that it won't eat and she needs to figure out what it will eat. Because if it doesn't eat, then she won't be able to keep it. Alex suggests worms, which disgusts her. Then he also suggests fruits, because a lot of birds eat it. Now Gaby has an idea: if they find out what kind of bird this is, they can find out what to feed it.

So Gaby opens her encyclopedia on animals and finds the birds section. The only problem is, that there are thousands of different birds! And they all eat different things, such as plants, insects, fish and nuts. Next they find the section on the different types of beaks. So Gaby searches for the one similar to her birds beak. The nearest one she can figure is for a raptor type of bird, such as eagles, hawks and vultures. These birds are known to eat meat. So Alex reminds her that there is a hamburger in the refrigerator.

Now back at the dumpster in the alleyway, Honey Hawke is looking for clues about who took the bird. Reading through the memo pad, she learns that it belongs to a girl named Gaby. Also from reading another page, she finds out that Gaby attends a school in the Fort Greene area. And the school is currently doing a recycling drive. Now Honey once again speaks out loud in soliloquy. She says a sinister tone that this little girl, won't have this bird for too long!

Back at the Jenkins' house, Casey has drawn her mother a beautiful picture. It tells her that she misses her. Now Jamal's parents have come home. She happily addresses them as Aunt Doris and Uncle Reggie, and they are both happy to see her. Casey shows them the picture she drew for her mom. And they say it's really nice and that her mom will love it. Also Reggie mentions that Casey's older sister Cheryl has just started college. So he asks her how she is and she just says she is fine. Now it seems that both Doris and Reggie have an uncontrollable itch and they keep scratching themselves. Now Jamal has come downstairs and joins his parents. Now it seems he has the uncontrollable itch too. So he cannot stop scratching himself either. Now Grandma CeCe enters the living room and asks the three if they need to either be dipped for fleas, or if they are doing some new sort of dance. Casey laughs with her and then she tells them all: "Gotcha! Gotcha! Gotcha!". It turns out Casey has played another joke. She has put itching powder on the front door knob and the staircase banister. Hearing this, Jamal is furious. He snaps at her, but his parents and Grandma try to get him to calm down. But he doesn't, he snaps at her saying that Casey has just gotten here, and she is already causing trouble. Hearing this, Casey is hurt and she says that she didn't want to come anyways. Then she runs upstairs to hide. Afterwards, the three adults are all annoyed that Jamal was so hard on Casey.

Back in Gaby's bedroom, she has gotten the burger, but the bird won't eat it. Also she wants to make a list of the things it won't eat, but she cannot find her memo pad. Now she realizes that she must have forgotten it back at the dumpster. Now Alex reminds her that the burger was cooked, and birds do not cook. So perhaps it only eats raw meat. So Gaby suggests the raw steak from the refrigerator (even though it is supposed to be their dinner today). But the bird won't eat raw steak either. Checking their list of things the bird won't eat, Ghostwriter suggests Tuna. But it won't eat that either. Also the bird won't eat cat food or little sausages either. So all those items are added to list of what the bird won't eat.

Now there is a knock on the door, it is Hector and he asks to come in. Hector also goes to the same school as Gaby. So he asks her why she didn't bring any cans to the recycling drive today. She tells Hector because of the excitement over the bird she found. Hector is amazed by how big it is. She explains to Hector that she found the bird, while looking in a dumpster for cans. But now the problem is, they cannot figure out what it will eat. So if it won't eat, it will starve to death. Hector suggests that perhaps it isn't hungry or that it might be sick. So they should take it to a veterinarian. Gaby thinks this is a good idea, but Alex reminds her that to get to the vet they will need to pay a lot of money for transportation. And as they both know, their Papa is very frugal when it comes to spending money. Unless it is for necessities.

Then Hector suggests asking Calvin Ferguson for help. Since he had a parrot for a long time. Gaby agrees because Calvin must know a lot about birds. Alex disagrees with this idea. After all of the things he had done to him and the team, Alex feels that Calvin cannot be trusted. Also He doesn't want Calvin setting foot into their bedroom. Gaby reminds him that the bedroom is all hers now. And she is desperate to find out how to feed it. Or she won't be allowed to keep it. Therefore she has to ask Calvin for his help.

A short time later, Calvin Ferguson has come over. He loves the bird and thinks it is beautiful. They have filled him on the bird, and he cannot believe she found it in a dumpster. She asks him if he will help them or not. Calvin agrees to help, only because he loves birds. She tells Calvin everything they know that the bird won't already eat. But they are certain it is a meat eater. Calvin tells her that there are over 8600 different types of birds. And they all eat different things. So in order to find out what it eats, they need to find out what family it belongs to. So to figure this out, they need to check it's beak, feathers and feet. Calvin has brought with him a detailed encyclopedia all about birds that can help them.

Then Calvin points out that this bird has a rubber band on it's foot. So that can help them find out whom it actually belongs to. Gaby objects because she wants to keep the bird. Then as Hector and Gaby are looking through Calvin's book, he writes down the bird's leg band number on his hand. Now Calvin points out that her bird isn't a raptor type. Since the beaks on raptors are longer, thinner and have more of a point. Then Hector points out that Gaby's bird's beak looks more like a parrots. However, Calvin disagrees. Since he is an expert on parrots, and they usually come in bright colors only. So they look for another clue, and they check the section on bird feet. Gaby finds a foot that gives the description for parrots, toucans and cockatoos. Checking her bird she points out it's feet are just like that. Calvin disagrees and mentions that it isn't necessarily a parrot. It could also be either a toucan or a cockatoo. But she is positive that based on the description of it's beak and feet, that is must be a black parrot. Calvin is amazed because he has never seen a black parrot before. So now that she knows what it is, she can find out what to feed it.

Back at the Jenkins' house, we see Jamal has washed off all the itching powder. Then in his bedroom his parents are both waiting for him. He thinks he may be in trouble, for the way he spoke to Casey earlier. But they not here to punish or reprimand him. They just want to talk to him about Casey. They explain to him that she is going to be staying with them for a long time. Jamal figures out that it is because his Aunt Emmaline (Casey's mom) has been getting drunk again. His dad tells him that is correct. According to Grandma CeCe, she has persuaded Emmaline to get the help she needs and to go to a hospital to stop her drinking problem. They explain that Aunt Emmaline has a problem: When starts having one drink, she just cannot stop and keeps having more. But the hospital she is going to has doctors and counselors that can help her. Jamal asks them if Casey is aware or her mom's problem. Reggie says she does know her mom drinks too much. However she is scared. So they all need to be here for her. Also the best way they can support Aunt Emmaline, is by taking care of Casey for her, until she is better.

Back at Gaby's room, Gaby finds the section about what to feed parrots. It says that nuts are their favorite food. Also they eat, fruits, vegetables and seeds. Also on rare occasions, they do eat meat. Then Calvin tells her that she is actually a pretty good scientist. Hector objects that this isn't science. Calvin gets rude and patronizing to him. So he tells Hector that since they are studying a bird, that is a science called ornithology. Then he knocks on Hector's head asking if anyone is home. Feeling disgusted, Hector tells him it's someone who thinks he is a jerk.

Now Alex enters Gaby's room and Calvin offers to shake hands. Alex refuses and he is cold and unfriendly to him. Then he gives Gaby some nuts to feed to the bird. Then finally the moment of truth is here: the bird eats them! They are rejoiced that it will eat them. Also they think it is so neat how the bird uses his feet to put the nuts into it's mouth.

Now Calvin offers to let him take the bird home with him for the night. He says he wants to study it more and help them find more answers. But he has a distinctive look on his face, and he wrote the leg band number TUB O16 on his hand. Therefore he must have an ulterior motive. He tries to convince them to give him the bird, by saying that taking care of parrots isn't easy. So he is willing to do the work for them. Sensing he won't give it back, Gaby says no. Then Alex backs her up and kicks him out of the room. So Calvin leaves seeming somewhat disappointed, while Gaby laughs.

Then back at the Jenkins' house, Jamal and Casey meet in the living room. She assures him that she washed off all the itching powder from the banister and door knob. Also she apologizes for playing the joke. He forgives her and he apologizes for being hard on her earlier. They make amends and they agree to play catch after dinner.

Then back at Gaby's room both Lenni and Tina have come over. They think the bird is so cute and Lenni wonders how old it is. She tells Lenni that some parrots can live up to 60. So they might be together for a very long time. That is unless it is already 59. Suddenly the bird starts saying the word: "No worries" a few times. The three of them are amazed that it can talk. So now Gaby wants it to learn to say her name. Now Eduardo overhears the commotion and learns it can talk. So he jokes by saying that maybe now it can tell them whom it belongs to, but Gaby says no. Then Tina points out the leg band on it's foot and asks what it is for. Gaby says she doesn't know, but Lenni suggests it might tells them who the real owner is. Eduardo asks her why she didn't show it to him before. She says she didn't think it mattered. He says it does matter, since this bird can already belong to someone. So now he wants them to make missing bird fliers and put them up around the neighborhood. Gaby objects and whines saying he said she could keep it. He tells her that if nobody comes to claim it, then she can keep it.

Now we see a dark trophy room inside a taxidermy studio. An intimidating man is about to eat some Cornish hen and he doesn't look very happy. Honey Hawke refers to him as Mr. Poulet. So this man is Audubon Poulet. She tells him that she is sure that the person who took the bird, is a girl named Gaby. Since she found Gaby's memo pad near the dumpster where she hid the bird earlier. Mr. Poulet is not impressed. Then she shows him what Gaby wrote. Now Mr. Poulet demands to know where she is and where she took his bird. Honey tells him she doesn't know yet. But she according to her memo pad, she goes to a school in Fort Greene, that is sponsoring a recycling drive. So when she finds Gaby, her goose is cooked. She laughs, but he doesn't find her joke to be amusing. He then screams at her, at the top of his lungs. He demands for her to find the girl and to bring him his bird!

Rewind
The show's narrator explains to the viewers, in case they have forgotten what has previously happened in the arc. The facts:

First- Gaby finds a sad looking bird sitting on top of a box in a dumpster. The box said: "Brooklyn Chicken we make em, you bake em". But this bird is no chicken. Gaby wants to keep the bird, but her dad thinks it will be too much trouble. So Gaby promises to look after the bird, all by herself. She even puts it in writing, and Mr. Fernandez finally gives in.

But- someone is after this bird! Audubon Poulet and Honey Hawke, want the bird back. And they mean business!

Meanwhile- Gaby is having trouble feeding the bird. It won't eat anything. So Gaby asks Calvin Ferguson for his help. Calvin says they'll have to find out what can of bird it is. Then they can find out, what it will eat. They compare Gaby's bird, to the pictures of other birds they saw in a science book. So they figured it is a parrot. Now they just have to find out what to feed it.

Meanwhile- Jamal's cousin Casey is back, and she is up to her old tricks again. Such as putting itching powder on the front door knob and staircase banister. Now Jamal thinks she has gone too far. So he ends up hurting her feelings. Then Jamal finds out from his parents, that Casey's mother is now in an treatment center for alcoholics. So Casey may be living with them for a while.

Back to the bird- Honey Hawke finds Gaby's memo pad at the dumpster. So she has figured out, that Gaby has the bird, and that she lives in Fort Greene.

Who is Honey Hawke? Why did she leave a bird in a dumpster? Is Gaby headed for trouble?

Story
The arc resumes with the bird screeching in the background.

Inside Gaby's bedroom, we see it wakes her up. And it is only 6:17 am! Now she panics when she overhears her Papa screaming and yelling at the bird. So she runs into the bodega to see what is wrong. We see Eduardo and he furious to see the bird has gotten lose in his store, and has made a mess. So now he is yelling at it to come down from the top of a shelf. And he is threatening to hit him with a broom. Gaby pleads for him to leave the bird alone. Eduardo is furious, because Gaby signed a contract, promising to keep her bird in her room. Gaby says that she forgot to close her door, so it got it out.

Now Alex is awake too. Alex is also annoyed, because the bird visited him too and defecated on his book report. Now both Eduardo and Alex are mad. So Gaby apologizes to the both of them. She suggests that perhaps her bird just isn't used to being around people. Then she asks them to help her get it down. Eduardo is still tempted to whack him with a broom. Then Gaby begs him not to hurt him. So Eduardo reluctantly agrees to get a ladder and bring him down.

Now we hear repeated knocking at the door. It is Calvin, he is smiling and he looks really excited. He eagerly wants them to let him in. They are annoyed to see him over so early, however they let him in anyways.

Now we see Casey is quietly talking to Ghostwriter on Jamal's computer. Jamal is still asleep, as Casey tells Ghostwriter an amusing riddle. Ghostwriter likes it and replies with: "ha ha ha". Then he tells Casey that she is a funny girl. Casey remembers that her mom always tells her that too. Then she takes out the letter that her mom gave to her. She tells Ghostwriter: "My mommy wrote me a letter before she went away, but I'm scared to read it". Ghostwriter asks her why. Then she answers telling him, that she is afraid that it may be a goodbye letter.

Now all the commotion of typing on the keyboard, crumpling and folding up her letter, and speaking out loud has awoken Jamal. He is annoyed to see her, and he asks her what she is doing in his room at 6:30 am. Casey apologizes saying that she couldn't sleep and begs him not to be mad. Then before she can run away, he asks her to stop. Jamal isn't mad. He has her sit on his lap and he asks her if worrying about her mom has been keeping her awake. Casey says yes it has. He reminds her that anytime she wants to talk about her mom he, his mom, dad and their Grandma are all here to help her. He asks her if she wants to talk about it now and she says no. Instead she wants to speak to her own mom. He says she cannot right now, but when she feels better in a few days from now, she will phone her. Casey says she can help her mom feel better by making her laugh. So Jamal suggests they write her mom a get well letter, with a few of her riddles in it.

Now back in Gaby's bedroom, Alex is still cold and unfriendly to Calvin. He asks Calvin what is he is up to. Calvin explains he was up the whole night, trying to figure out what kind of parrot this is. Since he suspects that she might have a very rare and valuable bird. Alex asks him how he could know. Calvin explains that his book has detailed pictures of every species of parrot in the world. He says he now wants to do a careful scientific comparison. Gaby tries to help him, but he rudely pushes her away saying he needs to do this scientifically. That way he will know for sure, what kind of parrot this is. Alex snaps at him saying they already know what kind of creep he is. Gaby ask Alex to be quiet. Since this scientific comparison could be very important.

So they start and Gaby takes notes. First Calvin asks her what color the feathers are. She documents that they are greyish black. She also documents that his beak is the same color too. Also the feathers on his cheeks are red. Then they inspect his tongue. By feeding him, he sticks out his tongue. Then she documents that his tongue is red and it has a black tip. Now they have figured out, that this parrot is a palm cockatoo!

Also, Calvin now reveals to her that by finding this bird, she can become a very rich girl. Apparently this bird is worth a lot of money! Gaby angrily snaps at Calvin saying that she won't let him sell it. Calvin says he doesn't want to sell it. Instead, he wants to return it to the rightful owner. Alex asks him since when has he had such a heart of gold. Now Calvin reveals his ulterior motive: He wants to find the rightful owner. Hopefully the owner will be so grateful, that he or she will pay Calvin a nice handsome reward! Alex is furious, he snaps at Calvin saying that he knew was up to no good. Now Gaby is also furious, She screams at Calvin telling him to leave her bird alone, and to get out of her room. Calvin is ticked off. So he leaves saying that they haven't heard the last of him.

Now inside the trophy room at the taxidermy studio we see Honey Hawke. She has been hard at work, trying to figure out which Fort Greene Elementary School Gaby attends. She has made a list of three complete with phone numbers. Then Audubon Poulet approaches her. He wants this bird, so he can preserve and stuff it. Then keep it as his prized trophy. He speaks to her in a sinister and dramatic tone. He demands to know why she isn't out finding his bird. Then he tells her he spent years searching, had many plans that failed. And a lot of money spent. All of this was done, to find his ultimate prize: the bird. Mr. Poulet tells her this as he digs his silver plated fingernails into her shoulders. Ms. Hawke begins to feel suffocated, tense and and uncomfortable. She trembles as she nervously tells him that she has made a list of all the elementary schools in Fort Greene. So when she finds out which one is running a recycling drive, it will lead her to the girl who took the bird. Mr. Poulet gets angry and shouts. He tells her that he doesn't care about the girl. He just wants that bird!

Now back in Jamal's bedroom, he and Casey have finished the letter for her mom. They read it over and they think her riddles are amusing. Ghostwriter especially likes the second one. Then Casey signs it herself saying love Casey. Jamal applauds her on making such a good letter for her mom. She thanks him and asks if they can now mail it. Jamal laughing saying it is still too early. Also they are still tired, so they should get a bit more sleep. She agrees and they tell each other goodnight. Or in this case: good morning!

Now some time later, we see Gaby visiting Lenni upstairs in her loft. Lenni has come up with a missing bird flier. It says:
Lose a bird?
Found: Palm Cockatoo.
Color: Greyish black.
Band Number: TUB 016
Call Gaby at 555-8943.

Gaby thinks that this flier reveals too much about the bird. So therefore, anyone can call and say it is there. So Gaby decides they just make it brief. So they change it to say:
Lose a bird?
Found: Unusual Parrot.
Call Gaby at 555-8943.

Therefore, if someone calls they can describe all of these details themselves. And if they get them right, she will know they are the real owner. Now there is a knock at the door. It is Alex and Hector. Gaby lets them in, and she tells them they are just in time to help Lenni put the fliers up around the neighborhood. Alex is confused thinking she wanted to keep it. She says that she does, but their Papa says she has to make sure it doesn't already belong to someone. Also she doesn't want Calvin to get a reward. So if someone can prove to her that they are the real owner, she will do the right thing and just return the bird to them. Now we see Lenni, Alex and Hector moving all around the neighborhood putting up the fliers. Also there are even copies of the fliers printed in Spanish!

Now back in Gaby's bedroom, Jamal and Casey are now visiting. Casey likes the bird and thinks he is cute. Then inside the Brooklyn Chicken box, Ghostwriter has stumbled onto something. He found the bird's travel permit. Jamal explains to Casey that a travel permit is like a permission slip. Just like when a student needs one to go on a field trip. It says where the traveler is coming from and where it will be going to. It says that Gaby's bird came from Australia and arrived here in New York. Also they find out that a band number is on the permit. And it matches the one on the bird's leg band. So now they know for sure that it's her bird's travel permit. Also it says it's scientific name: Calyptorhynchus funereus. Jamal explains that a scientific name is the name people all over the world use, no matter what language they speak. In case it needs to be quickly identified. The three of them are all having difficulty pronouncing this scientific name. The closest Gaby came come with is: Calypso Funeral. Casey finds this amusing and then suggests naming her bird Calypso. Gaby likes the name. Now she has come up with a way to use all this information. She will use it as questions for people who call her. So if they get it right, she will be convinced that they are the real owner.

The next day, Gaby and Hector are shown walking home from school. She tells Hector that she wants to pick up Casey, since she promised her she could visit Calypso. Hector just wants to know why they are walking down the alley. She says that she wants to go back to the dumpster, and see if can retrieve her memo pad. When they arrive at the dumpster, the two law enforcement officers are there. They are searching for clues on the whereabouts of Honey Hawke. The heavy man's allergies are making him sneeze. This is making it difficult for the thinner man to write down clues. Hector and Gaby watch them from a distance. They don't realize that they are the good guys. They are not too sure what to make of these two men. The heavy man finds the fake facial hair that Honey Hawke threw away. So they write down that she lost her disguise and made a run for it. And the thinner man writes down: "Hawke escaped". Hector suggests they go and ask them about Calypso. Then Ghostwriter flies onto the thinner man's notepad. He tells them: "Hawke escaped". Hector reads it out loud, and the two officers overhear him. So now they suspect they know something. So now they want to speak to them. But Hector and Gaby are afraid of them and they run away, and the officers lose them.

Now back in Gaby's bedroom, Casey is visiting Gaby and Calypso again. Calypso says "No worries" a few times. Casey just loves it when he talks. Gaby says she loves it too. Also that she is trying to teach him to say her name too. Gaby nicely speaks to Calypso and tries to get him to say her name. But he doesn't, he just screeches. Casey asks Gaby after he does say her name, if she can teach him to say hers as well. She says sure. Also she shows Casey that she is also trying to teach him to fly onto her arm, but he doesn't yet. Now Alex and Hector enter and tell her she has a phone call in the bodega. Gaby thinks it might be Tina, but Alex tells her to get her list of questions ready. So this must be the owner.

Gaby has come up with a list of questions for the callers to answer. So they can prove they really are the owner.

  • Q1: Kind of Parrot?
  • A: Palm Cockatoo.
  • Q2: Color?
  • A: Greyish Black.
  • Q3: Scientific Name?
  • A: Calyptorhynchus funereus
  • Q4: Band Number?
  • A: TUB 016
  • Q5: Where did it come from?
  • A: Australia.

The person Gaby is on the phone with is a woman. But not just any woman. It is Honey Hawke disguising her voice to sound like an elderly woman! She is speaking to Gaby on a sidewalk on a cellphone. She nicely tells Gaby that she will give her a reward for looking after her bird for her. Gaby says it's all right, she doesn't need a reward. But she will be happy to birdsit if she ever needs a birdsitter. She nicely tells Gaby that she will be the first person she calls if she ever needs one. Now Honey asks Gaby where she lives, but Honey can see the law enforcement officers are nearby. She now senses it might be a trap, or the officers might be waiting for her at Gaby's house. So she tells Gaby that she is an old woman. So it is hard for her to get around. So she asks Gaby to meet her on the corner of Myrtle Avenue and Cumberland Street. This way she can drive off and make a quick get away! Also the two law enforcement officers have found the flier too. So now they also consider phoning Gaby.

Now we see Gaby sadly packing Calypso up in the Brooklyn chicken box. Lenni tells her she is doing the right thing. This pet bird might be the only company, that this old woman has. Casey decides to keep the travel permit to remember Calypso by. Alex tells her they need to go and not keep the old woman waiting. So both Alex and Gaby sadly leave to return the bird.

Now Lenni and the others are hanging out upstairs in her left. Then Calvin comes by and he impatiently knocks on the door and asks to come in. Lenni reluctantly lets him in. Then he says he needs to see Gaby, since he has found out big news. They tell him she has gone to return the bird. Hearing this, he is really disappointed. He explains that he just found out that palm cockatoo are not allowed in the United States. It is illegal to bring them into their country. So Jamal asks him how it got here. Calvin says someone smuggled him in. Casey thinks he said snuggled, he rudely says smuggled. It means that someone had to sneak this bird into their country, which is against the law. Casey explains that Calypso wasn't smuggled in, because he had a travel permit. Calvin looks at the travel permit and begins to compare it to information in his own book. Lenni points out that the right scientific name for palm cockatoo is: Probosciger aterrimus. But on the travel permit it says: Calyptorhynchus funereus. Calvin says that his book isn't wrong, but the travel permit is. Also that the smuggler must have purposely put the wrong scientific name on the travel permit. That way they tricked the officers at customs into believing that this bird was allowed to come the United States. So Calvin deduces that Gaby has been had. So now she is off to return the bird to a smuggler/poacher/thief!

Then Calvin reveals to them that a bird like Calypso, is very valuable. It could be worth as much as $20,000. They are shocked and cannot believe this at first. But Lenni mentions that Calypso is a rare bird. So rare things are usually worth a lot of money!

Now Calvin shows his obnoxious side again. He tells all of them that the bird could have been there's. So they could have gotten a lot of money for it. But now it's too late. All because nobody ever wants to listen to him. So he leaves telling them that he hopes that they have learned their lesson. They are all fed up with him and cannot wait to see him to leave.

Then Lenni asks them if what Calvin said was true. Then Hector suggests that maybe it isn't too late. So Jamal asks them where Alex and Gaby are supposed to meet the old lady. He says on the corner of Myrtle and Cumberland. So they realize if they run over, they can stop them. So Jamal quickly fills Ghostwriter in, and Lenni and Hector run over as fast as they can to stop Gaby.

Now we see Honey sitting in her van putting on her wig and glasses to complete her disguise, just as Alex and Gaby come by with Calypso. Honey can see them coming and she glares at them with greed. She honks at them, so they know where to go. For a moment, Gaby has second thoughts and stops walking. But Alex tells her they can't turn back now. So they approach the van. Now just as Honey is signaling to them, Hector and Lenni come running up to them, along with Ghostwriter flying by. They are a few feet away. So they begin yelling at Gaby to make her stop and to not do it.

Will Hector and Lenni stop Gaby in time?

Rewind
The show's narrator explains to the viewers, in case they have forgotten what has previously happened in the arc. The facts:

First- Gaby finds a sad looking bird in a dumpster. So she takes it home. Gaby and Calvin Ferguson, compare the bird to pictures of other birds in science books. Finally they find out, it is a rare type of parrot, called a palm cockatoo. The team thinks the bird is really cool. Especially after learning it can talk! What Gaby doesn't know, is that Audubon Poulet and Honey Hawke, want the bird. And they mean business!

Meanwhile- Jamal's cousin Casey is back. And Jamal finds out from his parents, that Casey's mother is now in a treatment center for alcoholics. Casey really misses her mom a lot.

Back to the bird- Ghostwriter finds something in the bird's box. It is a travel permit for the bird. The permit has the bird's scientific name on, and it is really hard to say. So Gaby decides to name her Calypso.

Meanwhile- Honey Hawke pretends to be an old lady, and convinces Gaby that she is the birds real owner. So Alex and Gaby leave, to return Calypso to her.

Then- Calvin finds out, that the type of palm cockatoo Calypso is, aren't allowed in the United States. Therefore, someone illegally smuggled it into the country! So that means, Gaby is about to give Calypso to smuggler!

Will the team be able to stop Gaby in time?

Story
The arc resumes with Hector and Lenni running over as fast as they can to stop Gaby.

Then Honey Hawke happily guides them to the front of her van. Just as Ghostwriter flies right in front of Gaby and Alex, Gaby points out Ghostwriter. He lands on top of the Brooklyn Hospital sign. He instantly rearranges the letters to tell them: "Stop". They sense something is up. So they stop just as Honey Hawke (in her old woman disguise) comes out and happily waits for them. Then finally, Hector and Lenni catch up to them. Both of them are out of breath. But they manage to tell them to stop, and not to hand over the bird. Because this old woman is a smuggler! They are shocked to hear this. Then on Lenni's command, they run to the park to lose her. As she sees the kids run off, she is furious. So Honey Hawke screams at them to bring her back the bird.

Then she gets into her van and drives after them. Then Honey drives right into the park! Now she gets out of the van and begins to chase them, up the concrete stairs. She runs up the stairs very fast, but the four of them all hide at the other side and duck beneath the concrete wall, just as she gets to the top. They cannot believe how fast she is. They can sense that she is a dangerous person. So they quickly take Calypso and go running back down. Honey runs a bit further up. Then she realizes that she has lost them. Now she is really mad. So she heads back to the hideout.

Now over at the Jenkins' house, we see Grandma CeCe, Jamal and Casey have all come home. Next we find out, that while they were at the library, Casey's mom Emmaline called and left a message. Emmaline asks where everyone is and tells Casey that she misses her. And that she promises to call her back soon. Casey is very disappointed that she missed her call. So Grandma CeCe and Jamal apologize about it. Then Grandma CeCe allows Casey to phone her mom back. Now Jamal apologizes to Tina, saying he won't be able to go to a rally with her. Since he has to stay home for now and support Casey. So he asks her to fill the team in, and what they just learned about palm cockatoo at the library. She says yes and he thanks her. Then when Grandma CeCe phones back, Casey is upset to find out that the line is busy. Casey is anxious to speak to her mom as soon as possible. Doris says that she can try again later. So for now, Grandma CeCe cheers Casey up. She treats Casey to some peanut butter and jelly flavored ice cream.

Then after Casey and Grandma CeCe go to the kitchen, Doris finds what Casey dropped. She and Jamal are surprised to find out, it is a letter to Casey from her mom. Also they are both concerned to see that she hasn't opened it yet.

Upstairs in Lenni's loft, Lenni has rallied with Gaby, Alex and Hector. Now we hear a knock and Lenni allows Tina to come in. She is very excited to tell them all what she and Jamal found out. She starts by telling them that she and Jamal have learned that palm cockatoo are an endangered species. At first Hector doesn't know what she means. So he jokes by saying that they were in danger too. From when that crazy old woman was chasing after them. She corrects him by telling "endangered" not "In danger". She explains that when an animal is endangered, there aren't too many of them left. So when they die, there won't be anymore of them ever again. They are all upset to hear about this.

Then Tina explains that she, Jamal and Casey found this out at the library. Also she borrowed a CD-ROM that has a lot of very useful information. So Tina boots it up on Lenni's computer. As it is booting up, Gaby asks why smugglers would ever want to steal a poor and endangered species. Lenni explains to her, that they are very valuable. Since there are not very many of them left. Hector reminds Gaby, that Calvin said that a bird like Calypso, could be worth as much as $20,000!

Now the CD-ROM has loaded up. Tina explains that the program has information all about parrots. There is also an entire section about smugglers. And how they capture birds, and sneak them into other countries. It explains that many breeds of parrot live in rain forests. Palm cockatoo live up high in the eucalyptus trees. Since the babies stay in the nests, the smugglers cannot reach them. So usually they have to cut the trees down. But they risk killing half to all of the babies, by doing this. So say the nest had sixteen babies. Only eight of them might may survive after the tree falls down. Next the smugglers have to sneak them out of the country. Usually, they load them onto trucks in cramped up cages, where they can hardly breath. On the average basis, half them may die as well. Also during the trip, they are hungry and weak.

Then to sneak them into another country, they need to tape their beaks shut and tie up their bodies. So when they arrive, two more of them may die also. Then finally, before the smugglers sell these birds, they are kept in cages with other kinds of birds. These other birds may also be sick and spread diseases. So one more parrot may die too. So for every rare bird that comes to another country, more of than half of their breed that was found may also die. The five of us them all feel terrible, after hearing this.

Now we're back inside the trophy room, at taxidermy studio. Here we see Honey Hawke taking off her disguise. She is furious and ticked off, that she failed to retrieve the bird. Her excuse is that someone or something must have warned the kids off about them. And it made them run away. Audubon Poulet is furious too. He tells her that stuffed birds don't run away. Once you carve the life out of the bird, it stands loyal and true. And preserved for the ages. It is as if to say: "Once you kill someone, they certainly don't mess up ever again!". Hearing this, Honey Hawke looks very concerned. She trembles and nervously tells him not to worry. Next she tells him that she still has Gaby's phone number, and she thinks her family owns a store. So once she finds the store, she can track her family done. Then she will finally get him the bird back. Now he approaches her with a long pair of silver calipers. Then he measures her head. Now he threatens her, telling her that she had better find it. Since she has already fouled up twice. So three strikes and she will be stuffed! She seems very apprehensive after hearing this. It could very well mean, that if she messes up a third time: he will kill her! She nervously laughs this off afterwards.

Now back at Lenni's loft, Gaby takes Calypso out of the box to check on him. She nicely talks to him. She tells him that they will find out who is after him. Also that she won't let the smugglers hurt him anymore. Then Hector tells her that they have started a casebook. The first suspect is the old woman. Tina thinks she might have just been a senile old woman. Perhaps she just found the bird and wanted him back. Then Alex and Lenni remember that when she called Gaby, she described Calypso using the fake scientific name. So the evidence against her. Is that she used the fake scientific name. So they deduce that she must be in cahoots with the smugglers.

Their next suspect is the two men who chased Gaby and Hector at the dumpster. They explain to Lenni, Alex and Tina that they saw these two men at the dumpster where she had found Calypso. They also explain to them that they were putting on fake facial hair as a disguise. Also that Ghostwriter read that they wrote down: "Hawke escaped". Lenni suggests that the way it is spelled, that Hawke could be a name. So perhaps it might be Calypso's real name. So the five of them all try to call Calypso "Hawke". But he doesn't respond. So they realize it must not be his name after all. Then Alex suggests calling the police, and reporting what they have found out.

Now over at the Jenkins' house, Grandma CeCe and Casey return to the living room laughing. We can see that Casey really enjoyed the ice cream. Now Doris tells Casey that she found her letter. So she asks her if she even wants to open it. Casey says that she isn't so sure that she does. Now Doris tries to have her sit down and talk with her. But Grandma CeCe sends her to bathroom to get washed up. When Casey leaves, Grandma CeCe says that the last thing Casey needs, is talk about something that will upset her. Doris is concerned, she says that they should. Since Casey is obviously worried about her mom. Grandma CeCe isn't sure they should. Since she doesn't even like to talk about it. Doris says that Emmaline is an alcoholic and has a real problem. So they should talk to Casey about it. Instead of acting like nothing is happening.

Now Doris expresses real concern. She shows Grandma CeCe that Casey got a letter from her mom. But she is afraid to open it. Jamal expresses his concern too. He tells his Grandma that Casey cannot sleep at night. Grandma CeCe says it is because, she isn't used to being here. Jamal tells her that Casey told him that she is worried about her mother. Grandma CeCe says that she must just be homesick. Also that she is just a little girl. So she doesn't know what is going on. Doris tells Grandma CeCe that she believes that Casey does know. So the sooner they all talk to her about it, the better she will feel. Hearing this, Grandma CeCe begins to takes things into consideration.

Back at Lenni's Loft, Alex has called the police. But he finds out that the police do not cover birds and animals. So they need to call the Fish and Wildlife service. It is a service that works for the government. They help protect and save birds and animals. Alex calls the number, but the office is closed for the day. So he leaves them a message explaining that they need help. Because they found a palm cockatoo that might be an endangered species. So he leaves his name and number. Then he asks them to call him back immediately because this is urgent. Then after hangs up, he tells Gaby it's time for them to go home. Before they leave, Lenni says they shouldn't take Calypso with them. Since the old lady saw all of them. Therefore, she could be stalking them. So Alex suggests they bring him over to Jamal's house. Since the old lady didn't see Jamal.

Then Gaby and Alex bring Calypso over to Jamal's for the evening. Casey admires him in the cage, thinking he is so cute. Gaby has Jamal write down instructions on how to take care of him. She tells him that when he blushes, his cheek feathers become a darker shade of red. Also She tells him not to worry about him peeing anywhere. Since birds only defecate. Gaby can see Calypso is in good hands. So she nicely says goodbye to him.

The next morning, we see Eduardo Fernandez. He is talking to a person on the phone. It is a man named Ed Atkins from the Fish and Wildlife service. He is very confused, because he thought his children already returned the bird. But still he writes down the agents name and number on a shopping bag. And he promises he will tell his kids to call him back. Then suddenly, a very pregnant woman in a pink dress and hat comes in. She seems like she is having a contraction. So Eduardo comes to her aid, and asks her if she is all right. It turns out to be a false alarm. When we see her face, we now realize it's a familiar one. This is Honey Hawke in disguise! She has come to the bodega to find out where Gaby's family is. She learns that they are the Fernandez family, and that they do own this store. She speaks in a Cajun Bayou accent to disguise her voice. She tells him that she wishes that she could be a bird and just lay eggs, to make her pregnancy much easier. He tells her not to speak to him about birds. Hearing his tone, she asks him if he has bird trouble lately. He tells her she does not know the half of it. So Honey buys a bag of munchies. Then as she pays, Eduardo inadvertently gives her the bag that he wrote wildlife service information on. She is ecstatic to see this, and she quickly hides it in her bag.

Then Hector comes in asking Mr. Fernandez if Alex and Gaby are home. Then they coincidentally come in. They tell their Papa what they found out. They tell him that they learned that the old woman who called her turned out to be a smuggler. Eduardo asks them how they know this. They explain, that they found out it is illegal to bring palm cockatoo into the United States. Therefore, it must have been smuggled in. Then Alex tells their dad that they reported it to the Fish and Wildlife service. Then Gaby and Hector tell her dad that in the meantime, they hid Calypso. So they won't give him to anyone but the animal police. Eduardo informs them that they just recently called. Honey Hawke has still been here the whole time, and she has overheard the entire conversation. She is furious and nervous about getting caught a the same time. She begins coughing and she starts walking out backwards. They ask her if she is all right. And says: "just fine - No worries". Then quickly runs out. After she is gone, they think she was very strange. Especially since said the words: "No worries". Also they see Ghostwriter flying out from her bag. These words, are the same words that Calypso has been saying. Then Gaby whispers to Alex and Hector, that they should go to her room to speak with Ghostwriter.

When they get to Gaby's room, Hector closes the door for privacy. Gaby asks Ghostwriter: "What did you read?". Ghostwriter answers saying: "Will you help me find cans to recycle for my school?". Gaby says that she wrote note to Ghostwriter in her memo pad. But she lost it at the dumpster, when she found Calypso. They figure that if this pregnant woman found her memo pad, then perhaps she is also in cahoots with the smugglers. So they add the pregnant woman down as another suspect. The evidence against her, is that she has Gaby's memo pad. Also she says: "No worries" like Calypso does.

Back at taxidermy studio, we see Honey Hawke taking off her disguise. She is really ticked off and mad. She tells Mr. Poulet that the kids found his bird and hid it. And they will only hand it over to the Fish and Wildlife service. Now she tells him no worries, because her new plan is going to be foolproof! He threatens her with a tool again hoping that it will be. And she promises that it will.

In the middle of the night, Casey is still awake. She comforts Calypso. She nicely tells him that she is homesick too. Then she brings the picture of her mom over. Then she tells Calypso what it is a picture of. She tells Calypso, that she hopes her mom will call her again soon. Then she tells Calypso her mom wrote her a letter. But she is afraid to open it, worrying it may be a goodbye letter. Then she mentions that her mom did say on the answering machine that she misses her. So perhaps it isn't a goodbye letter at all. Then she decides that with Calypso and Ghostwriter around, that she is safe. So she finally opens the letter from her mom. The letter to Casey, is just Emmaline telling her that nothing is her fault, and that she has to go away to get the help that she needs. Also that when she comes home she promises to try and be a better mommy to her. The letter ends with Emmaline telling her how much she loves and misses her. Finally Casey has some closure and feels a little better now. Next Ghostwriter writes to her in the air: "Try to sleep, sweet funny girl". So she says goodnight to Ghostwriter and Calypso. Then she falls asleep on the sofa.

The next day, Hector and Gaby arrive at the Jenkins' house. Gaby nicely speaks to Calypso asking him to say her name. Casey says he is fine, and she took care of him last night, and all during the past day. Now the phone rings, Casey is eager to answer it thinking it will be her mom. But when she answers, she is disappointed that it's just for Gaby. So Gaby answers the phone and it's her papa. She seems very disappointed. It turns out that there two agents from the Fish and Wildlife service waiting at the bodega. She and Hector are upset to hear this, but Grandma CeCe says it is for the best. They understand, so Hector volunteers to help her bring Calypso back to the bodega. Casey volunteers too. But Grandma CeCe says she cannot go, because they need to buy her some new school clothes. She says no, she wants to go with Hector and Gaby. Then Grandma CeCe reminds her that she needs new school clothes. Soon she will be attending school with Hector and Gaby. Casey gets annoyed saying, she wants go back home and go to her own school in Detroit. Grandma CeCe tries to be nice about it, but Casey refuses and says she wants to go home. Then she goes to hide upstairs. Afterwards, now Grandma CeCe is getting more concerned about her.

Now back at the bodega, two agents are waiting. Eduardo presents them and they show their badges. But they are actually Audubon Poulet and Honey Hawke in disguise! Eduardo goes to the back to stock the ice cream delivery before it melts. So Gaby speaks to the agents. Mr. Poulet asks her if that is the palm cockatoo, and She says yes it is. And they call him Calypso. When Mr. Poulet sees him, he starts to break character. Then he repeats himself a few times saying: "At last". Meaning at last it's mine! Then Honey taps him to make him stay in character. So he regains character, by saying that at last, they can save this poor and endangered creature.

Now Gaby tries to tell them a few things about Calypso. She tells the agents what he likes to eat. Then she tells the agents the sounds Calypso makes when he wakes up, and when he is in a good mood. The agents finds this to be annoying. Then she tells them that if he is biting himself, he is just preening his feathers. Mr Poulet laughs saying he won't be preening anymore. Since from now one, he will be grooming him! Meaning that he is going to kill and preserve Calypso as a trophy! Then finally they take Calypso away and quickly leave. Gaby says goodbye to Calypso. On the way out Calypso finally says: "Say Gaby!" Much to Gaby's joy.

As Gaby was talking to them, Ghostwriter keep giving her and Hector messages about some things he read in the agents pockets. Hector kept trying to point these out, but Gaby wasn't interest. She thought what she was doing was more important. Hector saw that Ghostwriter read in their pockets two different messages. "Audubon Poulet, Taxidermist". And: "I found a bird, and I'm going to keep it!". When Hector finally shows her these messages, Gaby is shocked, because she wrote that message to Ghostwriter on her memo pad, when she first found Calypso. So now they realize that those weren't the real agents. Those were phonies, and the smugglers!

So now she has to save Calypso. Outside we see Honey Hawke loading Calypso's cage into the same van from before. Then just as she gets ready to drive away, Gaby comes running out. Hector follows her, and he yells out to her as loud as he can, but she cannot hear him! She sneaks into the back of the van. Then as the back doors close, they start driving away!

Hector is really upset. So he runs into the bodega and calls to Mr. Fernandez. He tells her that Gaby is gone, because she sneaked into the back of their van to save Calypso. Then the van drove away. Hearing this, Eduardo is devastated. So he drops everything and runs after the van calling out to his daughter!

Rewind
The show's narrator explains to the viewers, in case they have forgotten what has previously happened in the arc. The facts:

First- Gaby finds a sad looking bird in a dumpster. So she takes the bird home, and names it Calypso.

Then- Gaby and Calvin, compare the bird to pictures of other birds in science books. They figured out, it was a very rare parrot!

Meanwhile- Honey Hawke and Audubon Poulet, want Calypso. And they mean business! So Honey Hawke, dresses up as an old lady. And then as a pregnant woman, and tries to steal the bird. But her plans failed.

Later- Gaby and Hector see two suspicious looking men, where Gaby found the bird. Ghostwriter reads something they wrote: "Hawke escaped". When Hector said it out loud, they overheard him. So now they think he and Gaby must know something that they want to know. So they made a run for it. Then they started a casebook, to keep track of the suspects and evidence.

Then- Calvin finds out, that the type of palm cockatoo Calypso is, aren't allowed in the United States. Therefore, someone illegally smuggled it into the country! So Alex called the Fish and Wildlife Service. They are a service that works for the government, protecting animals.

Meanwhile- Jamal's cousin Casey is back, because her mom is in a treatment center for alcoholics. Casey doesn't understand why she can't go home. So she takes matters into her own hands, by packing up and trying to leave by herself.

Then- the Fish and Wildlife agents come for the bird. But Ghostwriter read strange things in their pockets. Such as notes written by Gaby. And Honey Hawke has possession of her notepad! So Gaby and Hector figured out that they must be fake agents. So Gaby runs into their van to save Calpyso. But suddenly, the van drives away, with Gaby in the back!

Story
The arc resumes with Ghostwriter sensing something is wrong. So he borrows letters from food labels and products all around the bodega. Then in the air he asks Hector: "What's wrong? What happened?". So Hector fills Ghostwriter in.

Meanwhile, we see Gaby hiding in the back of Honey Hawke's van. She is terrified. Now Gaby is nervously trying to figure out where they are going. All she can figure out, is by the sound of things, is that they have crossed a bridge.

Now back at the bodega, we see Eduardo talking to the police on the phone. He is very frustrated and upset. He has explained the situation to the police, but they are having a hard time helping him. So Hector suggests he ask to speak to Lt. McQuade. Since he knows his kids and their friends. Therefore, he most likely can help them right away. So Eduardo asks to speak with him, explaining to the station that Lt. McQuade knows his kids. But Lt. McQuade is busy. So they tell Eduardo to wait for him to call him back. Eduardo tells the station that he needs to speak with him right away, and to tell him that it is an emergency. So the station asks him to hold on, and they will contact Lt. McQaude right away.

Then Alex comes in and asks what is going on. We see two Jamaican men in the bodega. They have overheard everything. So they try to explain to Alex that his sister sneaked into the back of the smugglers van to save her bird. Then the smugglers drove off, inadvertently kidnapping her. Now the police are giving his dad a hard time helping him. But not to worry, because soon enough the police will save her and arrests the bad guys. Alex is having a very hard time understanding the men's accents. So Hector fills Alex in on what has just happened. Then finally, we see Lt. McQuade has reached Eduardo. So Eduardo explains who he is and what has happened.

Now over at the Jenkins' house, we see Casey has finally reached her mom. We see her talking to her mom on the phone. We also see that they tell each other that they miss each other. Next Casey asks her if she is better yet. Emmaline says no. Then Casey complains that she wants her to get better. So she can home to Detroit and be with her, and go to her own school. Now we see Emmaline has explained to her that she still cannot come home yet. So she asks her to be good. Casey seems very disappointed. So she reluctantly understands and promises to be good. So she says goodbye and hands the phone over to Grandma CeCe.

Grandma CeCe happily speaks to her daughter. Grandma CeCe tells her daughter that Casey is fine, she is just a little homesick. She also tells her daughter not to worry about Casey. Instead to just focus on getting better. While Grandma CeCe is talking on the phone, we see Casey sadly sitting on her suitcase overhearing everything. Then after they say goodbye, Grandma CeCe tells Casey her mom sounds good and that she is getting better. Reggie and Jamal both agree that it is wonderful news. But Casey still doesn't look too happy. Next Grandma CeCe offers Casey some more peanut butter and jelly ice cream to cheer her up. But Casey isn't even in the mood for that! Then Grandma CeCe tries to tell them one of Casey's funny jokes. But all this does is make her cry even more. So Grandma CeCe gives her a big hug, and tells her to just let it all out.

Back at the bodega, Lt. McQuade has come over. He has been filled in on the situation. Now he asks Hector of what made Gaby suspect that the Fish and Wildlife agents were fakes. He almost spills the beans about Ghostwriter. Until he mentions that their getaway van. It was the same van that the old woman in the park chased them in. So to be sure, Lt. McQuade asks him to describe the van. After Hector describes it, Alex says that he thinks it is a Colt City van from the late 1980s. Then on his way out, Lt. McQuade says he will alert the patrol cars, and put out an APB. Just before Lt. McQuade leaves, Eduardo tells him that they should contact the Fish and Wildlife service too, and he agrees. Now we see Hector and Alex are off to work privately in Gaby's room.

Now we see that the van has stopped in some dark unknown warehouse. Then Ms. Hawke and Mr. Poulet quickly exit the van. He grabs the birdcage and he is very eager and excited. Then he tells Honey to make sure his instruments and nice and sharp. Since he cannot wait a moment longer. He looks at the cage with a sadistic glare. He tells Calypso that it is slice and splice time. Then he laughs carrying him away, as Calypso screeches.

Now back at the Jenkins' house, Casey sits on Grandma CeCe's lap. Casey apologizes for crying. Grandma CeCe says she has nothing to apologize for. Since this is hard stuff to deal with, for both children and adults. So Grandma CeCe asks Casey to tell them what is bothering her. So Casey asks why her mom left her. And if it was because she did something wrong. Grandma CeCe tells her of course not, and it is not her fault. Then her Uncle Reggie tells her that her mom just went to get help. It is because, she needs some time to work on her drinking problem. Then her Aunt Doris comes in and joins them. Casey doesn't understand what Reggie means. So Grandma CeCe explains that her mom Emmaline has a problem with drinking. So when she drinks too much, it makes her say and do things she doesn't mean to do. Now Casey has figured out what this means. Casey mentions that there has been instances when her mom cannot wake up in the morning. Or she doesn't remember to go to work. Even at times her mom forgets to pick her up from school.

Then her Aunt Doris confirms that this is correct. She also tells Casey that a person can get very sick from drinking too much. Also that bad things can happen too. So her mom didn't want that to happen. Although she didn't want to be away from her, her mom didn't have a choice. So she went to the alcohol treatment center to get the help she needed. Then Casey asks what her mom is doing there. Her Aunt Doris explains that her mom is getting help from doctors and counselors. Also she is taking courses to help her stop drinking.

Next her Uncle Reggie explains to her, it is the reason why she came to stay with them. And he promises that they will take care of her, until her mom is all better. Then Casey asks them if her mom ever will get better. Jamal says yes she will. But it is going to take some time. Grandma CeCe says they need to give it some time, and see how it goes for her mom. Then her Aunt Doris reminds her that anytime she wants to talk, just let any of them know. She smiles at Jamal and asks if she means even six in the morning. He smiles and laughs saying yes, anytime even six in the morning. Then the entire family begins to laugh too. Now Grandma CeCe gives Casey a nice kiss. So Casey is now smiling, and beginning to feel better.

Now back at the warehouse, we see Gaby has hidden under some tarps in the van to not be seen. When she senses that the coast is clear, she slowly crawls out of the van.

Then back in Gaby's room, we see Alex and Hector reviewing their recent clues. Alex reads: "I found a bird, and I'm going to keep it!". Hector explains that Gaby said she wrote that down in her memo pad. Then Ghostwriter read it from the pockets from those Fish and Wildlife agents. This was how she found out that the agents were phonies. They cannot figure out how both the pregnant woman and the fake agents can both have Gaby's memo pad. So they add the fake agents to the casebook as suspects. Their evidence: They have Gaby's memo pad. Then Hector reads the other clue: "Audubon Poulet, Taxidermist". Hector is confused about what a taxidermist is. So he asks if it is another term for a taxi driver. Alex says no it isn't. A taxidermist is a person that works with dead animals. So Alex gets the dictionary to find out more.

Now back at the warehouse, we see Mr. Poulet and Ms. Hawke have gotten a prep table prepared with all sort of tools and instruments. Mr. Poulet is so excited for finally finding a palm cockatoo, that he is happily dancing around the table in circles while singing. Meanwhile Gaby is creeping around the back. She is looking for a place to hide. Then suddenly, she bumps into a scary looking stuffed black bird. Then she uncontrollably screams in shock. This instantly alerts both Mr. Poulet and Ms. Hawke; that someone else is here!

Then back in Gaby's room, Alex has found the term "taxidermist" in the dictionary. It means: "The art of stuffing and mounting the skins of dead animals. So it looks like the animals are still alive. Hearing this. Hector is disgusted. He asks why anybody would want to do that. Alex explains that some hunters stuff animals they kill. Then they mount them on the walls as trophies. Also in museums, many of the animals they have on display are stuffed also. So now they deduce, that Audubon Poulet collects rare birds and stuffs them. So he must be trying to add Calypso to his collection! Also who knows what he may do when he catches Gaby!

Then Ghostwriter appears on the page. He borrows letters and tells them: "We must save Gaby and Calypso!". So they decide to call a rally. So Hector calls one on Gaby's behalf. So he writes on a piece of paper: "Rally G!". Then Ghostwriter skims the message. Now he flies away to deliver the message to the rest of the team. In Jamal's room, he and Casey are having a great time playing basketball together. Then after a slam dunk, they see the message on Jamal's computer screen. They realize that they must attend. So Jamal tells his mom he is going out, and Casey tells their Grandma she is going with him.

Back in the warehouse, Gaby is terrified beyond words. She is carefully creeping around, while Mr. Poulet is searching for her with a big butterfly net. Then Ghostwriter appears, and he rearranges the letters on her shirt to tell her: "Rally G". She is surprised, so she speaks out to Ghostwriter in reaction. Then Mr. Poulet overhears her. So he tauntingly calls out to her: "Here chicky chicky chicky chicky!". Then when Gaby senses he has gone the other way, she throws an object. This makes a sound, which makes Mr. Poulet think that the intruder, is where the sound is.

So now Gaby realizes her friends are looking for her. But she isn't sure where she is. So she decides to give them clues, so they can figure it out themselves. Hiding in a corner, she writes on the side of a box. She writes the following.

  1. Crossed bridge
  2. Hear cars above
  3. Hear boat
  4. Smell fish
  5. We make 'em, yo

She intended to make the last one say :"We make 'em, you bake 'em". But just before she could finish, Honey Hawke finds her. She grabs Gaby from behind taking her by surprise. Ms. Hawke is shocked to see her, saying she knew it was her! Now she calls out to Mr. Poulet. She tells him, that she has caught their intruder! Then as Gaby is taken away, Ghostwriter finds her message. He skims it and flies off to deliver it to the team.

Over in Gaby's room, we see the rest of the Ghostwriter team. They are all very upset and worried. They are all ranting and venting their worries over Gaby, and what they each feel they should do about it. Casey has to raise her voice for them to be quiet. So they can pay attention to Ghostwriter's message. They realize it must be from Gaby. They are not sure what it means. But Tina says that Gaby must have wrote down what she heard and smelled. So these must be clues, to where she is.

So since Gaby crossed a bridge, she must have left Brooklyn. So Jamal and Hector suggest she may be in either an underground garage, or in a sewer. Casey being good at riddles, suggests she must be under a bridge. Alex reminds her that Gaby crossed the bridge, and Tina mentions the only thing under a bridge is water. Then Lenni says that some big bridges have underground ramps. So Gaby must be someplace that is under a bridge; but near the water. So the smugglers must be hiding someplace under a bridge. So now they need to figure out which bridge it is. Then Alex says they need to figure out what their last clue means: "WE make 'em yo". Tina suggests it could have been something she heard the smugglers say. Lenni thinks Gaby was writing something, but she didn't get time to finish it. So "yo" could be "you". Then Casey says "You bake 'em". She shows them, that it says that on the box Calypso was found in. So Gaby must be in a warehouse for Brooklyn Chicken. But none of them claim to have ever hear of that company. So perhaps it was an old chicken company that closed down. So perhaps the company's old warehouse is under a bridge.

Back in the warehouse, Mr. Poulet and Ms. Hawke are holding Gaby prisoner. As a matter of fact, Ms. Hawke is personally restraining Gaby to a chair. Now Gaby asks him how he could ever harm a poor innocent bird, and why he hates him so much. Mr. Poulet says that he doesn't hate birds. He loves birds, ever since he was a little chick. He reveals his sad life story. He tells Gaby that when he was nine, he accompanied his parents on a trip to a bird sanctuary. His father was driving when suddenly, a bird smashed into the windshield of their car. This caused his father, to lose control of the wheel and crash. He reveals that he was the only survivor. When he crawled out of the burning wreckage, the first thing he saw was the lifeless body, of the evil bird that had made him an orphan. This bird, ended up becoming the first stuffed bird in his collection. Next he insanely tells Gaby that her Calypso will now complete his collection! Gaby cries no, and she tries to run and take Calypso. But they grab her in the butterfly net. Then they lock Gaby in a big fenced cage.

Then back at Gaby's room, the team is trying to narrow down which bridge the warehouse might be at. Hector suggests she might be at the Brooklyn Bridge neat Fulton Fish Market. Which could be where the fishy smell is coming from. Then Lenni points out that you can smell fish at about three bridges: The Brooklyn Bridge, The Manhattan Bridge and the Williamsburg Bridge. So it can be any one of them. Now Tina says they're stuck. Alex says they've got to keep trying because Gaby is in danger, and Calypso is about to get stuffed. Hearing the bird's name, Jamal suggests they ask Ghostwriter to search for Calypso's leg band, and read what street he is near. So Hector asks Ghostwriter: "Please find Calypso and read street signs near to him". Ghostwriter skims the message and flies off. Then after Ghostwriter leaves, they leave to find Lt. McQuade to see what he has found out.

Then just as the team enters the bodega, they all stop suddenly in their tracks. Inside are the two law enforcement officers. They are the same two that Gaby and Hector saw at the dumpster the other day. They freeze in fear and back away, as it looks like they are about to take out guns. But the team expresses relief, when they just take out their badges. The men both introduce themselves. The thinner man is Ed Atkins, and the heavier man who sneezes is Ambrose Chappelle. Alex approaches them to check their badges for himself. Then Alex confirms that they look real to him. Hector mentions that they scared him and Gaby at the dumpster. They apologize for that. They say they were desperate for information.

Then Alex tells them they are desperate for help too. Since some crazy taxidermist has kidnapped his sister and her rare pet bird. Mr. Atkins says he knows, because they have been chasing after Audubon Poulet for years. Along with his accomplice Honey Hawke. They explain to the team. That Audubon Poulet and Honey Hawke are notorious for smuggling rare and endangered birds into their country. Then Mr. Chappelle says that over the years, they have come so close, so many times at capturing them. But the two of them (especially Honey Hawke) always slips right past them. Mr. Atkins explains that Honey Hawke is a master of disguise. So she can look like anyone.

Then Hector asks them if they mean her name is spelled Hawk with an e: Hawke. They nod to say yes. Then Hector tells them, that was the reason they said Hawke escaped at the dumpster. The two men ask him how he knew that, but Hector doesn't answer. Instead he changes the subject. Then he reminds the team that Honey Hawke is a master of disguise. So all of those suspects: The old woman, the pregnant woman and one of the fake agents. They all must have been Honey Hawke in disguises. So that was how so many of their suspects ended up with Gaby's memo pad!

Then Mr. Atkins and Mr. Chappelle tell them, that if they have any information on Honey Hawke's whereabouts to let them know. They can use this to find and rescue both Gaby and Calypso. They also inform the team, that there is special breeding program that they are going to put Calypso in. So if Calypso has a family with say four babies, then all of them have babies. Soon they can have a hundred new palm cockatoo! Then this can help save its species. So when they eventually breed enough new palm cockatoo, they will safely release them back into the rain forest, where they belong.

Now suddenly, the team sees Ghostwriter flying in. He lands on the specials and advertisement board behind the counter. There he borrows letter to tell the team: "Dover St." So the team gather Mr. Fernandez and the two agents to the table. They get out a map, and they tell them they figured that Gaby might be in a warehouse on Dover St. Eduardo finds the location on the map. It is just north above the Fulton Fish Market. So The teams figures out that Gaby is stuck in a warehouse. One that is under the Brooklyn bridge, and on the Manhattan side. So without a moment to waste, The team, Mr. Fernandez and the agents hurry on over.

Back at the warehouse, Mr. Poulet is taunting Gaby as she is trapped inside the fenced cage. He and Ms. Hawke are preparing to kill, preserve and stuff Calypso! He tells Gaby, if she'll pay close attention, she will learn something. He explains that taxidermy is such a fascinating science.

  • Step 1: He will skin the bird. Being an expert, he intends to not lose a single feather.

Hearing this Gaby cries: "No!". He explains that normally after a bird dies, it's skin and feet will rot once it's dead.

  • Step 2: He will wash the skin and feet. Then he will treat them with a preservative. Gaby shudders after hearing this.
  • Step 3: He has made a new dummy body for the skin, feathers and feet. It is made from straw, wrapped with thread. He explains he will carefully stretch the skin onto it. Then he will sew it shut.
  • Step 4: He will match the bird's eyes with fake glass eyes.

Calypso screeches in panic. Then Mr. Poulet asks Ms. Hawke if she has finished preparing a poisoned peanut pie! They are preparing to poison Calypso to kill him!

Then just as Honey has it ready, Gaby notices that Calypso is biting on the pencil that is keeping his cage locked. She whispers to him to on going. So Calypso bites through the pencil, and opens the cage and escapes. Just as Calypso escapes, they notice and they are furious! Gaby is thrilled and applauds Calypso. Now Mr. Poulet threatens to kill Gaby, if she doesn't stop talking! So now Mr. Poulet and Ms. Hawke try to catch Calypso back in their butterfly nets. Then Gaby encourages Calypso to fly away. Calypso flies off to a high shelf on the ceiling. Mr. Poulet is angry. Now he tries to catch him back!

Now we see Alex, Eduardo, and Mr. Atkins and Mr. Chappelle have found the warehouse. To get in, they have to crawl in under the garage door. Alex senses they need to go through the back door. Then Eduardo and Alex hear Gaby screaming. So they both start to try and break down the door. But the door is jammed. So Mr. Atkins tries to break the door down, but he cannot. Then Mr. Chappelle gives it a go. He backs up and charges through it with all his might and it finally opens! Then the agents lead the way.

Now inside the prep room, we see Mr. Poulet is furious. He chasing Gaby around the fenced cage in circles. He is trying to catch her in his butterfly net! Gaby dodges away each time. Until finally, she outsmarts him. She exits the cage and locks Mr. Poulet in. Mr. Poulet screams for Ms. Hawke to stop her! Gaby backs away from Ms. Hawke trembling in fear. Then just as Ms. Hawke is about to catch her, the agents arrive. Ms. Hawke tries to make a run for it, but they have caught her.

Then we see Gaby returns safely to her Papa and Alex. Now as Mr. Poulet is trapped in the fenced cage, Calypso defecates on him from above. Mr. Poulet feels humiliated and ridiculed. So he screams: "CAW!" Then Mr. Chappelle remarks saying that have caught him in his nest at last. Now we see that both Mr. Poulet and Ms. Hawke have been locked up in the fenced cage. Then soon they will be handed over to the proper authorities.

Now we see both Mr. Atkins and Mr. Chappelle trying their best to catch Calypso. Then Gaby tells their Papa what she believes the reason they're having trouble catching Calypso is. She says that she thinks it is because Calypso wants to stay with her. Eduardo tell his daughter that she isn't going to be able to keep Calypso. These two agents are going to be sending Calypso to a safe bird sanctuary. Alex backs him up, he explains to her, that this is where he will be able to mate and have babies. Then when enough new chicks are born, they will be returned to the rain forest where they belong. Which is the way is should be.

Hearing this, she knows she will miss Calypso. But she understands that it is for the best. So she asks Mr. Chappelle if she can try a new trick she has been working on, to help get Calypso down. He tells her to go for it. So Gaby holds out her arm. Then she nicely calls out to Calypso, asking him to come to her. At first it doesn't seem to work. Then at the last moment, he finally flies onto her arm. She is so rejoiced she tells him: "You did it!". He mimics her. Then she says her goodbyes, and hands him over to the agents.
